(30 September 1846 - 13 September 1903) was an Austrian painter, born in Vienna, who spent most of his lifetime outside Austria, in Germany, Italy and France. He painted primarily still lifes and landscapes. During the period 1882-94 he was based in Paris, where he was greatly impressed by the work of Claude Monet whom he described as "the Rembrandt of plein-air painting" although he was attracted most of all to Rembrandt and the artists of the Barbizon school. In 1884 and 1885 he spent the summer months in the Netherlands, studying the Dutch old masters as well as the contemporary painters of the Hague School, and filling notebooks with detailed descriptions of the colors he observed in paintings that he admired. Of all the artists belonging to the circle around Wilhelm Leibl (called the Leibl-Kreis), Schuch was the most devoted to color. 1581-1641 Italian Domenichino Locations Italian painter and draughtsman. On the basis of his frescoes and altarpieces he became established as the most influential exponent of the 17th-century classical style. Through his critical analysis of the art of Raphael and Annibale Carracci he was influential in the creation of a modern canon of the ancients; and he was perhaps the most complete example of a 17th-century artist struggling to reconcile tradition with the demand for spectacle.
James Archer
1823-1904 British James Archer (1823-1904) was a portrait-painter. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. His best-known work includes children and people in costume as its subjects becoming the first Victorian painter to do children's portraits in period costume. He studied at the Trustee's Academy in Edinburgh under Sir William Allan. At Archer painted chalk portraits, but in 1849 he exhibited his first historical picture 'The Last Supper' at the Royal Scottish Academy. His work after that mostly consisted of scenes taken from literature or legends that were popular at the time, such as Shakespeare and King Arthur. In about 1859 he began to paint a series of Arthurian subjects, including 'La Morte d'Arthur' and 'Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere'. James Archer died in 1904 in Haslemere in Surrey, England, survived by his son and three daughters from his marriage to Jane Clerk.

Maria Christina Röhl, född i Stockholm den 26 juli 1801, död i Klara församling, Stockholm den 5 juli 1875, var en svensk porträttmålare som avbildade ett flertal samtida kända personer. Medlem i konstakademien (1843) och hovleverantör. Hennes tavlor hänger bland annat på Nationalmuseum i Stockholm. En samling av 1800 porträtt finns på Kungliga Biblioteket. Maria Röhl växte upp i en rik familj, men då hon blev föräldralös 1822 drabbades hon av fattigdom. Hon tänkte först bli guvernant, men professorn och kopparstickaren Christian Forsell undervisade henne då i teckning; hon hade redan tidigare undervisats av målaren Alexander Hambr??, och fick nu lära sig att utföra snabba och realistiska porträtt i blyerts; hon arbetade i blyerts och krita i svartvitt. Hon bodde hos familjen Forsell, där hon först avbildade familjens vänner och sedan, då det hade blivit modernt att låta avbilda sig av "mamsell Röhl", försörjde hon sig på detta i trettio år. Hon utnämndes till kunglig hovmålare 1843, studerade 1843-1846 under Leon Cogniet vid Franska konstakademien i Paris och hade sedan en atelj?? i Brunkebergs hotell i Stockholm. Fotografikonsten blev en svår konkurrent under hennes sista år. Även systern Eva Röhl (1810-96) uppges ha haft viss konstärlig begåvning.
